Surfaces for Paint an Aspen Tree

1.Start with a double load on a large 2 inch brush of Sky Blue and Wicker White. You can use any blue that you like, I just grabbed one I felt would make for a good background. (if you are new here and are confused about some terms see this post: Basic Strokes)

2. Mark off with white chalk where you want the Aspen tree trunk. I use a ruler in this post but on the video I show you another way I do it. Either will work.
6. don’t bother with drying the white, just come right back in with some of the gray mixed into your brush and start shadowing the right side of the trunk. Sweep the strokes and try to vary the length of the strokes. You can adjust the depth of the gray by adding a touch of black, and I mean a very little touch, if you wish.
7. Work a bit of Licorice Black into the brush and with the chisel edge create little black slashes. Try to curve them a bit to mimic the curve of the trunk. The pressure of the brush creates different widths of slashes.
Now time for the branches.
8. Double load the brush with the gray and white . If you look closely you can see the gray and the white on the brush.
How to paint a tree trunk on canvas?
Load your palette with fresh white paint. Then use your 3/4″ brush to paint a vertical tree trunk starting at the bottom of the grass and going all the way to the top of the canvas.
How to get black marks off of paint?
The marks are very simple and require the “dry brush” technique. Basically you load the tip of your brush in black paint and then wipe off your brush with a paper towel.
How to make grass darker?
Optional: you can make your bottom row of grass a darker shade of green by mixing a very tiny bit of black into the green.
How many parts white to green?
Mix about 3 parts white to 1 part green (see picture of palette below).
How to make leaves lighter?
Add more colors into your leaves! Do this by mixing some yellow with red to make orange. Then add some white into the red and orange to make lighter colors. When you do this variety of color it really gives depth into your leaves!
How to make a light orange color?
When you get to the corners, stop and mix a very very light orange color on your palette. Do this by mixing 1 part red, 3 parts yellow and about 4-5 parts white. It should be a very light almost peach color.
Where to add white in a circle?
Optional: You can add more white in the very center where the bright circle is. Then add some white strokes radiating outwards from it.
1. Clean the glasses
Start by washing and drying the glasses. Then wipe the entire glass off with an alcohol prep pad or rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball to remove all fingerprints, oils, etc from the glass.
3. Add the black paint accents on the aspen trees
Next, take your black paint and lightly tap little lines onto the trunk and branches. Again there is no right or wrong way to do this.
4. Let the aspen tree paint cure
To Bake Set the paint… Place glasses in a cool oven set the temp to 350 degrees, bake for 30 minutes, turn off the oven and let cool completely inside the oven. It’s top-rack dishwasher safe after being cured. I have used my glasses several times and put them in the dishwasher every time to truly test this method.
